@Pladask he does not look nervous or stressed out.

He makes the fourth variation sound divine

Despite the fact that he uses a very German, very stiff piano technique of always playing from the top of the keys instead of opening up the range of movement to include all space above and to the sides of the keys, and even below the keys, I've always loved Serkin. His playing communicates something very deep and beautiful and rich. Quite simply, he has something expressive that you can't really teach.

He seems nervous and stressed out, or is it just age? Still wonderful to see him, though. Bear in mind Horowitz did some pretty horrible stuff in the end, just think about the Japan tour.
Calling this a great performance would probably be the heart speaking more than the brain. But then again, isn't music more about hearts than brains? Bottom line: I really enjoyed watching this. :-)

@Pladask odd...I thought the performance was very fine regardless of age but to each his own. He might not have been as fiery in the forte passages as of yore, but I thought it was still very fine.

I just have to make a comment on this video. Not just for a guy who was 84 (at the time), but for anyone any age: He has SO much energy and life in his playing. One word: inspiring. . .
Thank you for this.
