This is how you can remove the Popup Ads in Avira AntiVir Personal (Free Version)
While Avira Antivir has one of the best detection rates of all antivirus, one of the main disadvantages is that after updating online, you get annoying full-screen ads nagging you to upgrade. To remove it, follow these instructions:
Windows XP Pro:
1. Start -- Run -- type secpol.msc (Local Security Settings) or go to Control Panel, select Administrative Tools and click the Local Security Policy
2. Right-click on Software Restriction Policy -- Create New Restriction Policies
3. Right-click on Additional Rules -- choose New Path Rule
4. Click Browse and find the avnotify.exe file (C:\Program File\\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic)
5. Make sure the security level is set to Disallowed and click OK
Windows XP Home (and Media Center):
1. Boot into Safe Mode (repeatedly press F8 after boot)
2. Login under the Administrator account
3. Navigate to C:\Program File\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe
4. Right-click "avnotify" Go to Properties Security Advanced
5. Look under the Permissions folder for a listing of all the system users. Do the following for all the users:
6. Edit Traverse Folder / Execute File Deny Click OK
7. Reboot (into Normal mode) when finished
Windows Vista Business/Ultimate:
1. Start -- Control Panel -- Administrative Tools -- Local security policy
2. Click on Software Restriction Policy -- Action -- Create new restriction policy -- right-click on Additional Rules -- choose New Path Rule
3. Click Browse and find the avnotify.exe file (C:\Program File\\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic)
4. Make sure the security level is set to Disallowed and click OK
Windows Vista Home Premium and Windows 7:
1. Go to C:\Program Files\Avira\AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic\avnotify.exe
2. Right-click avnotify.exe and go to Properties -- Security
3. Under the group or username SYSTEM, click edit
4. Put a checkmark under the DENY column for "read and execute"
Done. What you have done is disallowed the execution of avnotify.exe, which should suppress the popup window.

Warning: There's a few malwares out there called "Antivir" that make the user think that is installing a real antivirus but actually is a danger malware. This fake antivirus popups warnings to buy the product all the time. To get rid of this threat scan your computer with an updated antivirus, like Avira or Avast; or use the system restore of Windows; or watch this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vikK7bc43OM that shows how to remove manually the Antivir malware.

The Internet cannot answer this question for me so perhaps someone here can. How do you disable Malware detection in Avira? And no it's not done with the exceptions list, I've done all that and it still finds a particular file as Malware. I have other "better" programs to deal with it that are way less intrusive than how Avira freaks out every time you browse past a folder it thinks has Malware inside. So...any help will be appreciated.

@Aeonboom exceptions list works, but maybe you are a little confuse. There are two exceptions lists, one for system scanner and one for realtime protection. Make sure add the exe that you trust and avira detect as malware in both options.

@interlinkknight Thanks for the advice so far!! I've looked through every part of expert, and I only see one exceptions list. Where about's is it? =)

@Aeonboom Go to configurations -> PC protection -> System scanner -> Scan -> Exceptions.
The other one is in configurations -> PC protection -> Realtime protection -> Acan -> Exceptions.
The first add exceptions when you scan the computer for viruses. The second one add exceptions when you are exploring files and avira auto detects in real time. I think this is confusing and should change (it should be 1 exceptions list for all), but anyway it should do the trick.
