Thank you for commenting on my video.

I personally haven't used Solidworks and can't draw comparisons. Protel or Altium is not the best tool but it does do a fine job.

The price of Altium has crept up from a mere £1500 per licence to £5700 but it does offer electronic designers tools for developing complex electronic systems; Schematic Capture, PCB design & generates reliable Manufacturing Gerbers for PCB production. Cadence offers decent alternatives but £50,000+ a seat!!!

  • @temeltamer so Cadence is even more powerful than altuim? What do you think the MOST powerful PCB CAD is, if money is not an issue? And why not use freeware? shurly these types of programs arnt to complex to write are they?

  • @happygamestvfun1

I'm afraid they are, very complex indeed. Sometimes, writing good code isn't enough. Consider this. You are an entrepreneur and have come up with a solution, an an Audio Capture card with amazing latency figures. Say you have invested your life savings (£250k?) on this business (R+D, manufacturing, marketing, etc.) If you had a choice between a company that invested in quality EDA tools and another that used Freeware. Which would you choose for your product development & why?
