Bay Lady (aka Frito) was my pony of a lifetime, also known as "the Burbach's nanny". Most jumping horses and ponies don't mind their jobs; Frito loved hers, to the point where she'd jump obstacles in the middle of her field, riderless, for the fun of it.
I had moved on to higher divisions some time ago, but the pony missed her job, so we made my poor little sister (12 years old here) sit on Frito so that the pony could go to the show and have fun (they don't let ponies show without riders). Video highlight a: at 5:15 my sister actually SLOWS DOWN to ask "are you trying to kill me?" Answer: YES.
In April of 1992, I had a pretty bad fall with my jumper Bar Brat, and so the next week I dropped down a division and rode Frito while Brat and I both recovered. I rode Frito in the lower level "Marshall and Sterling" jumper classic and had a blast -- she was like a finely tuned uber-peppy motorcycle in a jump-off (first round at 6:21; jump-off round at 8:25).
Highlight #2: at 9:58, John Rush tosses his car keys in Frito's direction to get her to look forward for the photo -- his aim's a bit too good, and he hits her right in the face (poor pony).
Oh man! This takes me back :)
