In the first video you notice that the skater does not bend his knees as much as the second skater. By doing this, the toe of the sliding leg touches the ground much earlier than the rest of the foot. Thus the 1st skater is unable to slide far before he starts turning as one side is slowing down faster than the other and cannot slide far.
Keep your back straight. Leaning forward actually prevents you from bending your legs as seen in the first guy
