This General Cinema 5 was dear to me. My dad and I saw many great movies there during the 1980s, and I'm sorry to see it go. So sorry, that I had to do something to ease my pain. Funny how humans get attached to things. For some reason, I feel like a piece of my childhood died when this building was demolished. Therefore, I felt I needed to say a proper goodbye.

The lost of this building was a wake up call for me. And, before the UA8 Las Vegas Trail Theater is demolished, I plan on making a tribute to it as well.

History is important to me because it is a part of me.

Thank you danhostler1985 and JR Demolition for making this possible. Note: Not Intended for Profit

  • That's crazy that you can remember that amt of movies you've seen there.

  • @JMcgo1979 i was a kid and they made good movies back then.

  • If you have any still photos of this theater, you should put them on CinemaTour cause only 1 photos of this theater is on the website.

  • @dafunkymex Thanks for the information, but sadly, I don't have any photos or video of this General Cinema. The video belongs to Dan Hostler1985. He gave me permission to use his video so you might want to contact him. Sorry, it took so long to respond; I've been busy.

  • @Donovan448 This is VERY true. Movies today cannot match the standards of 80's movies

  • @brianhardaway1984 I’m working on it. I’ve got about an hour’s worth of footage. It would be a really cool to have an inside and outside record of this old movie theater. Meanwhile, you can read some of the children’s book, and see some of the storyboards, at shawnsshorts(dot)wordpress(dot)com. Just click on the “Stories” tab.

I was there when “Back to the Future” opened in 1985, plus Chuck Norris in “Code of Silence.” I actually got to meet him a few years later.

  • @Shawnpaulstewart

You should post those videos on youtube! I'd love to see the inside of this place!

  • I totally feel your pain with this. There was almost an exact duplicate of this General Cinema over in Richardson right across from Richardson Square Mall. When GCC went bankrupt in 2001 the thing just sat there and rotted for years until it was converted into some entertainment joint. Of course I miss Richardson Sq. Mall too.

I saw so many movies there it's ridiculous. I had my very first date there!

Too bad GCC went under. I always enjoyed their theaters.

  • Man, I’ve got a lot of stories I can tell you about this place: crazy managers, hanky panky in the projection booth, near-death adventures. It all happened, and it’s all true. In fact, I wrote a couple of stories about this theater. One of them is a little kid’s book, “Donny and the Doorman’s Nightmare,” self-published at Lulu.com. There’s a sample selection from the story on my WordPress blog. E-mail me on my YouTUBE channel if you’d like the link.

  • This story was written in 1984, several years before the now famous “GCC Candy Band” made its first on-screen appearance (courtesy of George Lucas’ ILM) in the late ‘80s. Somewhere in my closet, there’s a couple of videos of the inside of this theater, featuring an old friend and fellow employee named Geronimo. Yes, that’s his real name.
