@villagefem Fishing line is the best but anything will work. You need to string it around the bow multiple times, I had 6 wraps of the fishing line for better grip in the drill stick.

@andyandvirg I need to know how to make fire without using the string .....supposing you were in the middle of a forest with your girlfriend and you needed to keep her warm, then you just remembered gosh " i left my strings at home". How will you make the fire without the strings.

Thats why I'm interested in knowing how to make the fire without strings because you wont have a string with you everytime....thats a certainty.

@RobertsDigital Shoe laces, clothing strips or bark plaited into a string, long straight stick to spin between your palms - but that takes 2 people taking turns. To be honest you need to remember to take the string, or matches or lighter for that matter. Or get a girlfriend that doesn't feel the cold so much.
