Do you still have the bass ?
-
the neck has a large iron rod inside that bears the tension created by the strings, hence the "tension free neck" which is suppose to allow the neck and strings to vibrate more freely.

I have played headless basses and I do like the way the sound and play, but the absence of a head throws me off, particularly if its fretless...

I couldn't make out the guy's explanation how the tension was so good (even at a whole step down) on the lowest string. What was it?

I was not at first. But i move around a lot when i play. So my out look has changed. Frank said it will set. On your leg, by it self. If it had a head, it would be top heavy. I guess.... He is very happy with it!
