I think that the chapter that described the flight and everyone's transformation was the most beautiful part in the book. Of course, the scene here can't compare, but it's still very good.

Are you referring to 6:51-52? If yes, then the Russian word that is used there in the movie is "spit", which means "sleep", not "suffer". English subtitles here are the translation of the movie's lines, not of the book's lines, so the translation here is correct.

by the way there is a mistake in translation - pontius whas also suffering but the word used was asleep

its amazing that most of people that ive spoken to had the same imagination about that book in almost every detail. like Wizenedcompass wrote even in contrast and act of lights this in my opinion is a proof of how genius and figurative Bulgakovs writing was

I agree with AnnaPressman. When I read the novel these scenes flashed before my mind's eye like some tableau vivante of Durer woodcuts or Rembrandt etchings: black & white, with sculpting contrasts in gray as the characters are silhouetted by the bright light of the full moon. Despite the cheap special effects Bortko was constrained to use here to stay on budget, this scene works wonderfully well because of respect for Bulgakov's text and the high quality of the performances.

@NinjaHotel - This piece, as well as all the score to this movie, was written by Belorussian composer, musician, songwriter and former singer Igor Kornelyuk, who studied and is currently living in Saint-Petersburg, Russia. In Wikipedia there is a page about him, you can check it out if you want.
