I know she advocated the opposite of this - but, you see, this is akin to what she *portrayed* in order to advocate the opposite - which, only far less subtly, is what's being done in the episode.
@simplecoffee A collective society run by pseudo-religious enforcers such as the one in this episode is the exact opposite of everything Ayn Rand ever advocated. If you really want to join the Rand-hating crusade, you should at least have some informed grasp of why you're doing it.
This. This is one of my favourite Trek episodes EVER. One of the first to portray an Ayn-Randesque controlled world and the fate that would mean for humanity. Plus Kirk's first experience of talking a computer to death. Plus he's delicious.
Wow, this is a rare episode in my experience. Barely recognize it.
