ISS Expedition 16 Commander Peggy Whitson, Flight Engineer Yuri Malenchenko and spaceflight participant Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor are in orbit and on their way to the International Space Station. Their Soyuz TMA-11 spacecraft launched from the Baikonur Cosmodrome on 10th October 2007 at 9:22 a.m. EDT and entered orbit less than 10 minutes later. They will dock to the Earth-facing port of the station's Zarya module on 12th October about 10:52 a.m.

The Expedition 15 crew has been busy readying the station as they prepare to greet their replacements and Malaysian guest. Commander Fyodor Yurchikhin and Flight Engineer Oleg Kotov set up a work space in the Zvezda service module that will allow the visiting Shukor to perform several experiments over nine days. Flight Engineer Clay Anderson also resized U.S. spacesuits for Whitson and Malenchenko for an upcoming spacewalk. The current station crew also held space-to-ground teleconferences with their Expedition 16 counterparts to assist with handover activities.

Yurchikhin and Kotov are scheduled to leave the station on 21st October officially ending the Expedition 15 increment. Shukor will go home with the two cosmonauts. Anderson will remain onboard with Expedition 16 and return to Earth aboard Discovery on its STS-120 mission.

  • space tourist or whatever,he is still an astronaut for the experiences and trainings.he made history!

have heard of barbara morgan of usa?she was the backup for the teachers in space project back in 1986,but due to the challenger disaster which caught the life of her friend, mcauliffe, the program was cancelled.later morgan was reselected in 1998 and now she's an astronaut.she was a teacher.point is,muszaphar is still an astronaut, and he's educating our kids to gain interest for science and tech.

  • Malaysia BOLEH!!!

  • parabéns ao programa espacial russo. Tecnologia eficiente com economia de recursos.

  • guys look at 4:26 and you can notice difference between upper and middle cosmonauts. Middle just waves his arm but upper has sticked his little finger and forefinger out. His fourth finger and middle finger are together.

What does it mean? How do you think?

  • hermoso

  • hakimsopiak, shame on you. singapore cant even send one of your people to space...

  • thanks Piano. we're welcoming your stay in Malaysia. even some of the Malaysians were not supportive/proud of what Sheikh Muszaphar did. shame on them

  • Fuel would be rocket fuel.

The noise is only strong during takeoff, in the air, and slowing down during landing.

I'm not sure if they have noise cancellation technology that produces sound waves to interfere with the rocket thrust noise.

  • what about fuel???

    what about the noise???

  • Although I am not Malaysian, I am very proud of Dr Sheikh Muszaphar Shukor. He has brought the country pride and brought the spirits of the little kids. I am living in KL, and I would sincerely like to wish him congratulations.

    Malaysia Boleh!

  • Well,I like your idea, but I dont think RSA will name it after you unless you do something dedicated to them.

  • Could they make the Soyuz Rocket into a reusable rocket cargo plane? They could add another equal set of engines on the front of the rocket to slow it down when it lands, as well as some wings. It could also possibly hover and land vertically like the lunar lander or land / glide horizontally like the space shuttle.

This would make cross country flights faster and be a way to reuse the rocket and engines more times.

And if they decide to build a rocket cargo plane, could it be named after me?

  • hey!!shut up you motherfucker!!!!he is an astronaut!!!!i hope ur country punya rocket fell back to earth with ur angkasawan inside!!!this reply to nostradamo99!!!
