@eisteeking They do, depending on the license. At my university, I can get upgrade copies of Windows 7 Business for $12. Or I can get a full copy for around $99. And considering most people very rarely need the full, ultimate version of Windows, it's really not as expensive as often portrayed.

@MrRFuner Apple copies Microsoft. Microsoft copies Apple. Linux copies from both. Microsoft and Apple have copied from Linux. That's what is great about this industry... Great ideas find their way into great products. In the end, whether you like Windows, Mac OS X or Linux, it doesn't matter... Everyone wins because we consumers get better products in the end.

@eisteeking You can get educational upgrades of Windows versions for anywhere from $12-99. I got a Vista Business upgrade for $49 and a Win7 Professional upgrade for $12. Of course, those are educational prices, which tend to be the cheapest.

@sundhaug92 Apple continues to host a number of mailing lists related to MkLinux. The most active of the lists is mklinux-users.
Let's ask Microsoft if they agree to sell upgrade versions for their OS for $29.

The only bad part is that in 2 years or so, they'll have something way better.
