The Terminator - (PAL) Part 1 SEGA Mega Drive

480p is recommended for best Quality.

This port of ''The Terminator'' on SEGA Mega Drive was developed by Probe Software in the UK and published by Virgin Interactive for the PAL 50Hz TV signal. It wasn't optimized for the NTSC 60Hz signal to play identical as the original PAL 50Hz version leaving the NTSC 60Hz version with extremely unnecessary faster music and gameplay. Either Probe were too lazy to convert the game to play the same in NTSC 60Hz or it was their intention to have it sped up for NTSC 60Hz. Which ever you'd want to believe is fine, but the PAL 50Hz version's speed rate is the true original for this game.

Although this port of The Terminator is quite impressing for the 16-bit SEGA Mega Drive, it's still outshined by the SEGA Mega CD version which featured alot more levels and better gameplay.

STORY: Kyle Reese, a lone warrior from the future, returns to the past to protect the one woman who holds the key to the survival of the human race. Together they must face not only everything Los Angeles has to throw at them but also the terrifying might of a cyborg known as the Terminator... who will stop at nothing to kill them both.

  • @Adam060756 PAL/NTSC switch.

  • @dissident93 Send what for christmas?

  • @Adam060756 Nice.

What if I sent it to you for Christmas? haha

  • @dissident93 Yeah there really is a mod to do it but i've never been interested in it before. ianwilson1978 has his Japanese Mega Drive modded to run games in both PAL and NTSC with the options for 50Hz and 60Hz.

  • @Adam060756 Well, I can't say for sure, but you're probably right.

Isn't there a mod for that? Or you just wish it was?

  • @dissident93 Thats a good theory.

But I still think The Terminator plays unoptimized in NTSC 60Hz on the real cartridge. Somebody by now would have documented it on Youtube and brought it to attention if it played the same as the PAL speed on cartridge but not on emulators.

Sometimes I wish my Mega Drive console was modded to play in both PAL and NTSC with the 50Hz/60Hz switch just so I could be 100% positive myself.

  • @Adam060756 I don't think it's favored, per se. What I think is whomever logged the music from the game, forgot to set it it PAL mode. Thus, causing anyone who doesn't know, to think that's the way it should be, and uploads it here.

    Again, my theory.

  • @dissident93 Yeah I meant to say that most (if not all) uploaders get their music and gameplay from emulators like you said but based on the NTSC 60Hz speed. Thats always favourited whether it's in the wrong speed or the right speed.

Yeah, lucky for you guys in the US all other UK Probe developed games after this one were optimized for the NTSC 60Hz refresh rate to play the same as the PAL versions.

  • @Adam060756 I think most game music uploaders do the emulated form of it, rather than your style (recorded form CDs and stuff)

I'd tell you if it did, if I had the cartridge. I know Boogerman is optimized.

  • @dissident93 I don't think it's an emulated issue only. Not one playthrough on Youtube or soundtrack to this game has been uploaded in the original PAL speed (other than myself) and most uploaders tend to ripp their gameplays and OST's from American Genesis consoles seeing as 60Hz is the favourited choice.

I've got a feeling this game really plays unoptimized for NTSC 60Hz on the real cartridge, if not then it would have been uploaded along time ago in the original PAL speed.
