We rescued a three day old baby fawn who had fallen into a deep and narrow hole in the ground. Eva, the nervous mother deer we know well, could hear the crying fawn, but she was unable to figure out that it was more than a meter under ground. She heard our nervous emotion when we found the fawn, and in an instinctive reaction, she ran some distance away with her remaining fawn, perhaps wanting to protect at least one fawn from whatever had befallen her other baby. We don't really know what she was thinking, but later in the day she came through the yard, waited around until we came out of the house, and then led us through the woods to where the rescued baby was sleeping. While we took a look, and some video, Eva stood patiently nearby, keeping an eye on our body movements, and then when we were ready to go, she quickly led us away again, perhaps so the fawn could rest alone, hidden in the woods.

Look for Eva yawning in the last scene in this video.

  • OK, You two are on the top of my Awesome list! haha What a wonderful outcome. The sad reality that dangers are always present for wildlife babies makes these types of accidents deadly. Wonderful to see a happy ending to this day. Thank you for being such kind hearted people, you truly are a Blessing. ((Hugs)) Karen :o)
