I think that's what I like. I'm not a big masterpiece person. I don't necessarily have to have masterpieces, if it happens great, but that's not what it's all about for me.
OK let's go up here to this hat and put in some purple. It's fun to drop in color. You rinse your brush, dry it and then drop in. Sometimes you have to keep looking at your painting to rather than at the photo too much.
OK I guess I really need to put a bit of background in here. Just so you get to see what's light and it pops the whites out. But since this is just a sketch you don't have to do it all over.
Remember one thing about painting if you're going to be painting around a figure you're going to need some hard edges around where the light hit's the shirt. You might want to express some of that. But make it into a shape. Sometimes if you put a little boundary around it helps you see your background shapes. You could make this all into a big shape like that or whatever. I'm not thrilled with backgrounds but sometimes you need a little bit.
Forgot the red suspenders the whole reason I wanted to paint this picture, at least one of the reasons, was that I wanted those red suspenders. Let's get those in there. Don't want to say too much.
