To my ear Yo-Yo Ma is not even close to Rostropovich. Playing well has a lot to do with beautiful soul and the beauty of soul is achieved by a bit of suffering for Truth. Rostropovich is inspiring, because he sacrificed everything, his career, all the good life he had in the Soviet Union for Truth. It takes a big person to do this.
