These are my book recommendations! They are books I recommend for understanding the history, theory, and mechanics behind Wicca. You won't find any books on crystals or meditation here... I consider those type of books more about practice than theory. And practice is good. It's just not what I'm talking about. Here is a list of the books I mention (in order of appearance):
A Witches' Bible by Janet and Stewart Farrar
The Meaning of Witchcraft by Gerald Gardner
An ABC of Witchcraft by Doreen Valiente
Drawing Down the Moon by Margot Adler
The Spiral Dance by Starhawk
Dreaming the Dark by Starhawk
The Power of Myth with Bill Moyers by Joseph Campbell
The Chicken Qabalah by Lon Milo Duquette
The Holy Books of Thelema by Aleister Crowley
The Fifth Sacred Thing by Starhawk
Wicca for Beginners by Thea Sabin
The Study of Witchcraft by Deborah Lipp
The Elements of Ritual by Deborah Lipp
The Way of Four by Deborah Lipp
The Witches' Goddess by Janet and Stewart Farrar
The Witches' God by Janet and Stewart Farrar
**A book I forgot to mention: Triumph of the Moon by Ronald Hutton. This is a book written by a historian on the history of modern religious witchcraft. It is quite dry but **unbelievably** informative. Since I have not read all of the book and I have only had a library copy in passing, I forgot to mention it! READ IT!!

@tannhaus Have you read Wicca Magickal Beginnings by Sorita D'Este and David Rankine?
It's also highly recommended and is the best book I've read in regards to finding where all the bits of Wiccan practice, rituals, and beliefs come from based on historical records.
You can get it on Amazon.

@igd93 Unfortunately I have only read tidbits of Triumph of the Moon, but I do recommend it, as I have heard great things about it~ I really need to pick that book back up!! Thanks for the reminder. I'll see if I can edit the side box and stick it in.

Check out Hutton's "Triumph of the Moon". It's bound to be the last word on the origins of Gardnerian Wicca for the next 20 years. He's an actual historian of religion and probably the first seriously academic scholar to consider the question. He goes into considerable detail about the relationship between Crowley and Gardener and quotes extensively from Gardner's original BoS.

@VenusDeception1 Yeah, I've been following Starhawk's blog updates about that... I'm interested to see what happens.

I know everyone is suggesting books for you, but I have to jump on the bandwagon. "The Golden Dawn" by Israel Regardie. It will show you where a LOT of Wicca came from. It also goes into detail on a variety of subjects. Very very worth it.

@tannhaus Book recommendations are very welcomed! I've definitely passed by The Golden Dawn in a number of pagan shops, but I was so intimidated by the material within (if I remember correctly) that I didn't think I was in a place to comprehend (or afford) it. I would recommend it for others based on what I've heard and how much of Wicca is drawn from other western occult sources, but I haven't personally read it in full yet (:
