Snatches of video taken in the grounds and in the main prayer hall. No cost was spared in construction. The finest marble, enamel work and chandeliers are evident. The carpet is said to have been worked in situ by Iranian weavers, so that it is seamless. Women are not permitted in the precincts unless they are totally covered. No wisp of hair may escape the hijab. Arms and shoulders must be covered to the wrist and legs to the ankle. It goes without saying that clothes must NOT be see-through.

  • sadly, you are wrong about wearing any clothes you like to the mosque. As a woman, you MUST cover. Non see-through button up shirts with long sleeves, or ankle length coat. Ankle length, non-revealing trousers. Hijab which covers the hair entirely. I was turned away once at the entrance to the complex, ie before I got anywhere near the mosque, for being inappropriately dressed. I was wearing a loose, three-quarter length-sleeved cotton top with crop trousers. I also had to cover a wisp of hair

  • There's no need to feed frightened of Oman. You have to observe rules of dress, but I lived and worked there for over eight years and loved it.

  • It's only in the mosque that you have to wear proper clothes. Otherwise, you have freedom to wear whatever you want. In fact, Oman is one of the safest gulf countries.
