Premiering this month on public television, TATTOOED UNDER FIRE offers an intimate, character-driven portrait of Iraq-bound and returning U.S. soldiers, professing their pride, sharing their secrets and confessing their fears as they go under the needle at a tattoo parlor serving the Fort Hood community. Shot over four years, it has captured the chronological history of the stresses and fear these young men and women experience as they prepare for and return from war. What emerges is an evocative, poignant and highly personal look at the human and cultural cost of war, and the pressures life on Americas largest military base.

@DGK201 Well, I'm a lady but thanks. :) My great-grandfather on my father's side was a paratrooper, too bad I never had the honor to meet him. My great-grandfather on my mother's side was a guard for a salt mine in Germany in WW2. He is a true gentleman! If I were allowed, I would be a combat medic.

@DGK201 When I was 11, my little twin sisters were born 3 months early and were sent to Savannah, Ga. hospital. It's a total soldier town. These three big(really tall) guys that came out of one of the rooms. We got a picture with them and told them how much we appreciated them. A couple of hours later they came out of and elevator and all of them at the same time said,"Hoorah!". Best thig ever. Some of the nicest dudes!!!

@GiFtEdv3 if your congratulating this army combat medic please don't say Semper Fi since he is not a marine. Say it all you want to marines and for marine things, but it's slightly disrespectful to try to cheer up an army soldier and be tough by saying "Semper Fi" ,that would work perfectly though if he was a marine.
