You have an opportunity to act against US violations of children's human rights, as the Michigan Parole Board will be making a recommendation to Governor Granholm about the case of Efren Paredes, Jr. any day. Sentenced at age 15 based on circumstantial evidence and racial profiling, Efren has served 20 years on his sentence of Juvenile Life Without Parole (JLWOP) which is illegal by international law. Efren is an outstanding individual who despite his location has grown into a social justice leader, addressing immigration, labor, youth, women, violence prevention, racism, and more. Please join me, the Berkeley Peace and Justice Commission, and the City of Berkeley in urging Michigan Governor Granholm to release Efren Paredes, Jr.
