In BF3 the tank (mbt) with the final tank upgrade the CITV combined with a guided tank shell equals a near sure way to shoot down other players that like to fly a jet or helicopter. The reason it's so tough on air vehicles is they have flares equiped and the guided tank shell isn't distracted by flares. Footage is from a mp Conquest match on Operation Firestorm.

  • I would like some clarification. If my friend has CITV and I have guided shell... and he locks on, do I have to shoot in the general direction of the air target? Or can I shoot "ahead" of me with the guided missile turning around? Or, if I am in the CITV and I get the lock on, and he shoots his guided.... do I have to continue to track the jet? Thanks for any answer. Haven't been able to QUITE figure out the specifics.

  • @Valaman once the citv locks on, then the guided shell locks on you can shoot the shell in a direction no even pointing directly at the target. i do this when i have a building or something between me and target that may block the shot. i'll aim the barrel way up in the air so the guided shell will clear the building and go get the target.

  • I hate how you cant use flares to stop them

  • @imys1 yeah, flares don't counter it, but ecm jammer is a counter to citv and guided shells.

  • @A1Tripp could it work if i locked on in the 3rd seat then changed to the driver seat to shoot?

  • @benzeboss100 haven't tried it, but probably breaks the lock on. try it out and let us know if it works, thx.

  • The best thing to do is to use a javelin instead of the guided shell in the tank. its a lot more versatile and quicker too.

  • @benzeboss100 It loses CITV lock as soon as you switch seats. Apparently you can point the SOLFRAM and get lock then jump in the tank and still have lock on but you have to be very quick and hop the target stays fairly still

  • @Valaman You have to shoot in the direction of the CITV target. you cant fire the guided shell without a lock on.You could of course choose your own lock on of something else to the CITV target but that would just be stupid..Its worth noting that CITV lock + guided shell lock and hit to ground vehicles = more damage than guided shell hit alone..

  • @A1Tripp Cool, thanks.

  • Great vid! Good to know about the ECM jamming the CITV as I spend a fair bit of time in helos. Love the laser-painter/guided missile combo w/ the scout helos!
