Sen. Cornyn speaks on the Senate floor about his amendment to the economic stimulus package, which would provide meaningful tax relief for all working Texans and Americans across the country. Unfortunately the amendment was blocked by Senate Democrats. His measure would have lowered the 10 percent tax bracket to 5 percent for 2009 and 2010, providing relief to more than 105 million taxpayers and a benefit of nearly $500 per year.
I don't think we should give more money to corporations. They don't have citizens' interests at heart. Look at how Enron not only cheated its stockholders but there's also wide evidence that it manipulated energy prices and caused blackouts for its own gains.
Not to mention that most large corporations are able to evade taxes b/c of write-offs and clever tax manipulations.

If my the percentage of my income ceased by the government is lowered from 10% to 5% I will be better able to buy the new computer I have been eyeing. You have my support Mr. Cornyn.

The more the government attempts to take control of the economy, the more it will slip through its fingers. The economy does not care about intentions, simply what controls the flow of goods. I am glad that by lowering taxes, your plan allows for the economy to have more room to move, and thus, to solve its own problems. The problems that an economy has are far to complex for any bureaucracy to solve; it requires all 300 million of us to work together to find the impossibly intricate solution.
