In 2000, "The Urban Elephant" brought viewers the touching story of Shirley and Jenny, two crippled elephants reunited at The Elephant Sanctuary in Tennessee after a 22-year separation. The bonding was immediate, intense and unforgettable between the two former circus elephants. But long after the cameras were turned off, the wondrous moments would continue.

I just saw a Youtube video about Tarra the Elephant and Bella the dog. Tarra and Bella were best friends. According to the video, Bella was killed by coyotes. Tarra carried Bella's body back to the barn. Since Bella was buried, Tarra visits Bella's grave.

According to the video, elephants mourn their dead.

Is there anyone reading this post who needs more proof that elephants are self-aware and should never be caged?

I'm an evangelical vegan and a rabid anti-theist, to use the term Christopher Hitchens coined. I'm writing 'ways to heal the world' everyday on Facebook. Just trying to get people responding. Have a look if you like (same name) Door knocking, catch you later, x

Religion is a load of self serving BS that was just a way to control the illiterate masses before CCTV, ie God being omnipresent. It's been a pernicious and pervasive ideology that's held back the good in humanity for generations. Thou shalt not kill is not even no 1 in the commandments and it certainly doesn't seem to apply to animals, hypocrites I say "don't beat 'em, don't eat 'em, just treat 'em with love."

Bless you Soloman. Shirley will NEVER forget you. You were her "Jenny" for 20 years and gave her something to live for. You are a very special man.

They say that the evil men do lives on after them. Who would appreciate our wonderful architecture or feats of engineering or music and art? No one, as it was all done to please ourselves and if animals and their need for habitat got in the way then we believed we had dominion over the world and therefore the 'right' to take and destroy at our will. Religion gave men this arrogant idea, another reason why I'm an atheist. Are you like minded?
