A husky pup (Bindi) experiences Culbin forrest for the first time.
Young Bindi runs in a woodland trial, and from an early age, becomes conditioned to
(1) running out infront of the human transport (in this case scooter).
(2) running in forrest
(3) being praised for running
(4) recall/turns
Conditioning is when an association is made between an external stimulus (such as the sight of anenvironment , hearing of a noise or voice, etc etc) and developing an internal response to that external stimulus.
The most well known case of conditioning being the case by Pavlov ringing a bell whilst presenting dogs with food. This was the external stimulus.
The dogs salivating was their internal response to the external stimulus.
In time, the dogs salavated only when the bell rang, even when no food was presented.
The bell noise (audio input) had become potentiated with the dog food (visual/ smell stimulus) After a peroid of time, when the dogs were presented with the stimulus of the bell only, the dogs still salivated.
In other words, transferring this into the husky world, when BIndi does the """correct""" behaviour , here the """correct"" behaviour is running in lead (infront of the scooter).
Bindi then recieves genuine praise for this, this reinforces what the ""correct"" thing for her to do is, when presented with this environment.
Her environment being the woodland trail, wheeled human object (visual environment) commmands "hike", "hike on" and my praise, and noise of scooter behind her are her audio environment,).
Normally i would give her cuddles and claps at the end of the session too,(although this is not caught on camera here) so she recieves praise by form of her (sensory) touch/feel environment.
I have kept Bindi from being attached to the scooter (with harness and gangline) at this stage as her young bones/muscles are still developing, and i wish not to put undue weight on her at this stage.
In the woodland environment at her young age she is safe and cant get too far if she fails to respond to commands. (She responds well to recall, however, having practised this load indoors previously.)
