@mitchgunthorpe007 Most new manufacturing facilites (particularly the larger ones) are being built in RTW states. There ´s not auto industry left in the North East and California.

@ruelsmith i agree, unskilled labor has little to bargin with other then solidarity. in a trade union if you dont know your job you are not working but thats not the case in a factory.
-
Trade unions are a world apart from shop unions. Seniority means nothing in trade unions.

The only part that unions play in all of this is their payroll is what the prevailing wage is based upon. Why? Because it's a known consistent rate of pay. Non-union payroll is all over the place. I've worked with non-union companies that pay as well as union companies, and even treat their people great. I've also worked alongside of non-union and union companies that you couldn't force me to work for.

Those workers will spend their money in the local economy, where it multiplies its effects and gets taxed again through sales tax, and subsequent payroll and sales tax from the workers it helps employ through the ripple effect. Also, a higher quality job will purchased with taxpayer money as a result. Getting something cheaper doesn't mean you get a better deal, you know. I'm union, and I've been on prevailing wage jobs where we were the only union contractor there.

Folks, this isn't about unions and non-union companies. Prevailing wage was designed to stop tax payer money from funding companies doing public works with unskilled labor. The quality of work goes down, and much of the unskilled labor is brought in as undocumented and illegal workers who take their money home with them and spend it in their economy. Prevailing wage makes it so that it's too expensive to hire unskilled labor, so they hire local skilled tradesman to do a good job.

@Fuchender i will leave a very profitable business behind for my family. my kids understand that if you get an education and develop good work habits you will succeed in life. my grandchildren will not have to rely on a union ...or wait for the government or some socialist community organizer to provide them their sustenance....they will be able to stand on their own two feet. and if you have a job that you feel is exploitative then quit! thats what i did...now i am in charge of my destiny.
-
@Fuchender well mr know it all, i have worked in a factory and i held elected office within the union. i understand how bad things were in the past and the LAWS we have now to help protect workers. i work for myself now because i could see no future in a union shop....there is no reward for hard work in a union shop...it is all based on who was employed first. so now i am working for myself and the harder i work the more money i make...i will leave a business for my family.
"I have said, over and over... I'm a supporter of the labor laws we have in the state of Indiana, I'm not interested in changing any of them, not the prevalent wage laws, certainly not a right to work law." - Indiana's (R) Mitch Daniels, 9/3/2006, in a speech to the Teamsters Union
Once elected, he changed his tune.
That's the same tune Wisconsin's (R) Scott Walker, Ohio's (R) John Kasich, and Florida's (R) Rick Scott are all singing. (Or trying to.)
Coincidence? NOT.
A.L.E.C. Google it.

RoughAcres is 100 percent on the money. Kasich, Walker, Scott, Snyder and Daniels are all on the Koch bros gravy train/payroll. They do not represent tax paying constituents- they represent the robber barron corporate elites.
