BEAUTIFUL!

Justine "Baby" Washington will forever own this song in her solo version on Neptune Records, Washington knocked it out of the park with her original version. The Jive Five's blues inflection here is most memorable here in their background harmonies. This was a most unique pairing that could have been more positively presented and exploted to the betterment of both acts, which deserved much more recognition than they ever received during their heydays.

Her name is Jennette Baby Washtngton, Not Justine'

You're welcome doowopdave. Eugene Pitt & the Jive Five are my favorite group of all time and Eugene my favorite male vocalist. They are the best!!
As Eugene Pitt's Public Relations Rep, I can tell you this is Justiine " Baby" Washington on "The Time" with Gene & The Jive Five. Justine recorded "The Time" solo years before. This track is from the Ambient Sound album "Way Back". Arlene Smith & The Chantels did two tracks with Gene & The Jive Five - "Don't Believe Him Donna" & "Magic Maker Music Maker". The tracks with Arlene & Co. are from a second Ambient Sound album "Here We Are". Both albums were done around 1982.

@dream207
Thanks so much for clearing that up. I tried in vain to find the correct info and don't have the "Way Back" album. As for Eugene Pitt & the Jive Five....they make my Top 5 list of favorite vocal groups. He's one of the best in the business. Give them my regards. Thanks again.

Wasn't this Baby Washington singing on this song, not the Chantels?

That's a good question. My tracks are from a CD called "Let Us All Go Back" put out in 1994 by Stompin' Tide Records out of Spain. It contains both Ambient Lps but doesn't provide the original liner notes or credits. So I searched the web for discographies and info and only came up with references to Arlene Smith's Chantels as appearing on both Lps and no mention of Baby Washington. I will have to dig through my albums and see if I have the Way Back album and check the credits. To be continued
