How tall is he? Like how many inches.

you got the back detail wrong... the back compartment is to store a cassetticon since a special cassette (actually a radio) was to be inserted in the front door and the tuning knob mechanism (that had to reach the said radio cassette) did not allow for regular cassetticons to sit in there.. hence the back door.
Battery compartment was in one of the legs (the one without the headphone plug) :)

Wouldn't he already be broken if his buttons don't work?
You'd basically be risking breaking an already broken toy... Just by unscrewing the back.
