The greatest 3200m handicap race in the world, the $5.1 million Melbourne Cup (The Race That Stops a Nation) was run this year on Tues 7 2006, in front of 106,000 spectators and won for the first time by a Japanese-owned horse, Delta Blues, with another Japanese-owned horse Pop Rock 2nd. 3rd was Maybe Better.
