I am in England UK I rely on the how to teaching video's posted on YouTube as access to western riding trainers here is difficult - long way to travel and very expensive for a lesson. Youre all very lucky to have many pro trainers to choose from! Have a bgreat Easter and Paesach break if youre celebrating.

I've taught my horse in a similiar way, but basically whatever direction you're going, push your horse to the inside with your outside leg. That should be the only cue your horse will need after a while. When starting: push with outside leg and pick up inside rein. Your horse will always follow his nose; all you have to do is engage the hind end.

Also, im having a lot of trouble with lead changes. any ideas for exercises i could do with my horse to fix this? i find after a change, he canters real fast, [almost like a bunched-up, 2-beat canter] and then breaks into a trot before collecting himself into a lope again and this is also what he does when cantering in a straight line (he cant keep a steady pace for more than 20 meters straight! ) :S Hope you can help!!!! thanks =]

i had been taught to use the outside leg for guidance, and use the inside leg to ask for the canter. E.g. left lead= right leg on the horse. But your way makes more sense!!! thanks =]

I am enjoying listening to this guy. I have been riding a year and am continuously learning. A set of videos like this are a good addition to regular riding and lessons to give an insight to the logic of riding. Really good job
