Here is the Carillon de Westminster by Louis Vierne on the Sauer Organ of Berliner Dom, Germany.

Much thanks to Martin Doering of www.die-orgelseite.de for allowing me use of his fantastic pictures.

  • There are so many great recordings of this piece on YouTube but this is one of the most magnificent in every way, in my opinion. I hope that when I go through the Pearly Gates it is to this music because I will be a happy man!!

  • A Carillon stop should have MINOR tierce to mimic a carillon bell's minor tierce !

And a less prominent major tierce an octave higher - as in a carillon bell.

What a magnificent work by Vierne.

  • @robertgift Actually, I just browsed the stoplist and it looks like there isn't, though I wouldn't be surprised if there were a similar mixture of a different name on that organ somewhere.

Generally speaking a Carillon is a high-pitched mixture, most commonly at two or three ranks, containing one or more third-sounding ranks. So, it's like a kind of high-pitched echo cornet with breaks. They do a surprisingly good job of imitating their namesake, I think, when they're built and used appropriately.

  • This organ truly sings. Wow!

  • Perfect!

  • @theaterpipe1 There is a carillon stop!

  • This instrument is as great for this music as a genuine Cavaillé-Coll! And Andreas is giving a top-notch performance of it!
