@softer26 Those would be markers on the suits to differentiate the two space walkers. It has nothing to do with Soviet marks and strips.
That particular shot is of American astronaut Bruce McCandless on STS-41B flying the Manned Maneuvering Unit. The NASA catalog number of that image is S84-27232.
