For my one year YouTube anniversary...

"Death Letter" / "Grinning in Your Face"
by The White Stripes
From the LP De Stijl (the "Death Letter" part, at least)
Tuning: Open G (DGDGBD)

This one is a pretty basic slide cover, based mostly on the laid back nature of the album version, but adding a 'live' opening and "Grinning" break toward the end.

Chords:
3rd fret riff
Fifth fret (C)
Seventh fret (D)
Occasionally up to 12th fret during breaks (G)

Notes:
1. I tried to use a mix of slide and finger barre for the chords.
2. I'm hitting the guitar just below and a little in front of the bridge--sometimes I actually hit the bridge itself (but not the strings)--it helps to keep the open chord ringing, which you can hear if you listen closely.
3. I really like the 'slightly buzzy' sound of this in points, but the action is really low on this guitar so you can hear me rub a fret at a couple points when I really get going...
4. ENJOY!

  • I like this. i really do, actually because of your simple camera i've actually learned the majority of this song, but you haven't mentioned the original author anywhere in the tags or description =(

  • @IamDUFF I just assume everyone knows it's a Son House song, given it's a blues standard. I can add it, though.

  • oh dear god! notes (or tabs) PLEASE!!!!
