The Ventura Chapter of Surfrider Foundation funded a time-lapse project in September 2010 to document a managed shoreline retreat project at Surfers' Point in Ventura, California. The beach retreat was an alternative to a much more destructive seawall.

Phase One included removing about half of the existing damaged parking lot and recycling the materials. This stretch of beach was widened by 60-feet and a new cul-de-sac on shoreline drive was created. The multi-use bike path was replaced and relocated inland.

Other project benefits include beach restoration that protects our coastline from erosion and will provide more beachfront area for recreational opportunities. Plus the new storm water filtration system including a grass bioswale will treat runoff and prevent pollutant from reaching the Ventura River Estuary and ocean.
