2 instances of Molar on MicroKontrol, 2 instances on PadKontrol, one running on the Monome 256 for good measure.

A bad demonstration, yes. I spent the time on the code, just got it all working solid on OSX and Windows (direct detection/communcation to the Korg devices!) :)

  • if i can only afford one product at the moment, which would you recommend me picking up, the microKontrol or padkontrol, i have the korg mircoKorg synth, but im looking to make "The Presets" type music, and i would like a physical beat maker. are the 16 pads on the microkontrol extremely different from the pk pads? ive been researching these 2 products heavily the last couple weeks. since you own both maybe you can help me out.

  • the pads on the PK are larger as you can see. They respond to velocity better, its harder to get soft hits out of the MK. But personally I like the MK. i prefer piano keys to pads anyways, I like the 16 controllers (8 knobs 8 faders) and I really like the 8 LCD strips. From what you say Id think the PK might be better, but if you don't have a MIDI keyboard you should really consider one for playing in basslines and chords.

  • can i use molar with a touch screen monitor until i get a monome?

  • not fully. Molar requires multitouch ability (hold one pad while pressing another) for the lowest row functions / looping row portions, in other words for full usability you need a monome or multitouch device (e.g. Lemur)

  • That's awesome man. I always wondered why KORG soesn't include plugins like this with their hardware. Can you tell us when you are going to release this? Do you have a website where we can view your progress? And will this work on a Korg Kontrol49? It's basically an upgraded MicroKontrol so I figure its architecture shouldn't be all that different. I'd love to use this in combination with Ableton Live. I hope to hear more from you soon, keep up the good work!

  • KORG probably doesn't invest/devote the resources to make software stuff but I agree, their sales would double with cool/unique apps that at least demonstrate the hardware capabilities.

a friend of mine has a Kontrol49 and I adapted my code over at his studio, so it supports all three devices now (PadKontrol/Kontrol49/MicroKontrol).

It works with great with Live.. no website for it yet, this is probably the closest you will get to official for some time.

  • I'm very interested in this. Let me know when it's published.

  • hi steve..i was wondering if maybe i could get molar ? i have a microkontrol and would love to use to test some stuff ..would be nice..thanks

  • Hi Steve! I would just like to know if your app is stable enough to use on live gigs. I just got the padkontrol and i would like this to be my main instrument on my next one. thanks!

  • I also would be overwhelmed with joy if you put up a site to track progress on this VST. Even if it was just one number and no text or graphics (% complete, version #, ETA, you choose). That's all it would take! Looking forward to this very much.

  • Wow, I'm in. What do I have to do to get my hands on this great software??
