Lumbee Tribal Chairman Jimmy Goins interviews Teen Miss Lumbee 2009-2010 Alexis Locklear , newly crowned ambassador during Lumbee Homecoming 2009. Here is a statement provided by LRDA from Teen Miss Lumbee Alexis Locklear

It is my duty as an ambassador to display who we are as a tribe of the Lumbee Nation not only in a present state but who we were when our ancestors organized the first Indian Normal School; when they rallied together to save Old Main; when they showed up that cold January night at the Ku Klux Klan rally and successfully ran them out of town without incident; and when they organized voter registration drives in the 60s, making their presence known by electing tribal members on the state, county and local level. My people took risks and made changes within the community and it is my hope that I too can contribute to the progression of our Lumbee people by serving as a positive role model with integrity and distinction.
