Top Of The Pops - T-Rex ft Sir Elton John - Get It On (Bang A Gong)
http://itunes.apple.com/us/artist/marc-bolan/id3185460
Bolan claimed to have written the song out of his desire to record Chuck Berry's "Little Queenie", and said that the riff is taken from the Berry song. In fact, a line (And meanwhile, I'm still thinking) of "Little Queenie" is said at the fade of "Get It On".
During the Top of the Pops performance, Elton John played piano on the song. This has created confusion amongst many listeners of the song, causing them to believe that John was a member of the group (although he did play on the studio versions of other songs as a guest musician.) The piano glissando on the record was performed by Rick Wakeman. Wakeman who was desperate for work at the time to pay his rent had bumped into Bolan in Oxford Street who offered him the session. Wakeman pointed out to Tony Visconti that the record didn't actually need a piano player. Visconti suggested that he could add a gliss, Wakeman said that Visconti could do that to which Bolan replied "you want your rent, don't you?" Wakeman did and earned £9 for his efforts.

In March 2005, Q magazine placed "Get It On" at number 36 in its list of the 100 Greatest Guitar Tracks.

  • God i miss "Go-Go" girls....

  • He was not a "Sir" then.

  • What a awesome talent marc was sums up the shit these days this is 41 years old where will the bogus bands be in 3 years long forgotten

  • In 1971 I wasn't quite 12yrs yet and all eyes were on Marc Boland, never noticed Elton John

  • great song just looks fake. gnr reunion pls !!!

  • re leonakita [[you got no clue do you

  • Amazed to see Elton on this video !! 1971 ??

  • @leonakita There is piano in the song, but it's buried in the mix. Check out the actual record rather than a youtube video. And what if there was no piano at all : It's a lip-sync apart from the live vocal, and I know I would have fun to play an instrument that's not on the record at all.On purpose. There's no bridge - so? many songs don't, and even when they don't have that traditional structure, they can be good.

  • HELLO! there's no piano part in this song...so wtf?...does anyone hear any piano at all except for the keyboard runs at verse ends?....this is so bogus! Also, this tired ass song has no bridge, a crucial missing element!

  • In a "children of the revolution" video Ringo Starr is on the drums.
