Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is a nightmare. At a young age, promising witches and wizards are taken to Hogwarts to learn to use their skills in dark and twisted ways. The sky is dotted with dementors and lit by a haunting moon. The halls are dark and reek with the stench of blood and grotesque potions. Students are killed in the Forbidden Forest, learn to mutilate others with a flip of their wand, and volunteer their own blood for magical experiments.
The worst part? No one feels a thing. All staff and students are expected to remain almost completely emotionless. No one cries, no one becomes afraid, no one rebels, and of course... no one falls in love. These shreds of humanity are forbidden.
At the start of her fifth year at this school, skilled witch Hermione Granger finds herself alone and pondering the workings of Hogwarts. The memories and hauntings overwhelm her, and for the first time since she can remember, she feels tears on her cheek. Horrified by her emotional slip, she tries to cover it up, but then realizes that a familar figure has accidentally stumbled upon her forbidden act of saddness.
Ron Weasley catches her crying, and leaves the room in nervous surprise, as Hermione watches him go in fear. She worries that her treachery to the school will now be revealed through Ron, having no clue that those strange tears have actually stirred something within Ron that he didn't know he had....
