Regarding "putting flesh on a comic book character," I agree. Regarding "translating a comic book to the screen," I slightly disagree. Camping up Luthor and his "assistants" was a bad move on the part of the producers IMHO and that's probably why the film was ignored by many comic book fans. "They're giving Superman the ZAP POW treatment that they gave Batman! BOO!" I don't agree with that view but I can understand their point.
nowadays there are too any shityy adaptations, Batman the movie was great but thats about it for that series.

I must disagree respectfully. I think the "breakthrough" film was Donner's '78 version of SUPERMAN.
