Switch on of the Tiverton Christmas Lights 2009

THE FESTIVE season began in Tiverton on Thursday when the towns Christmas lights were turned on.
Traditionally part of the carnival night entertainment, the Christmas lights switch-on will this year be an event in its own right and there was plenty to keep people entertained.

Around 600 people crowded Fore Street and Phoenix Lane to see carol singers from some of the towns musical groups, the Tiverton Town Band, and other activities.

Then at 6pm, Frank Housam, and Mayor Paul Graham, led the countdown which didnt quite go to plan, with the lights coming on when the count had reached eight. The lights coming on early, it didnt stop the countdown, or the festive cheer, as the town was alight with blue and white light.
