I am also very glad to watch this one again! A truly remarkable adaptation of an excellent reading. Poor Soames! I do feel sorry for him in this scene. I always thought of Irene as somewhat manipulative and cruel. Thank you!

@elend56 Me too! She's horrible! If that were me, I'd feel lucky to be with Soames! Lol! ;-)

i remember watching the series when it first came on canadian television, thank-you for putting it up

nothing beats the 2003 version that is remarkable

@Asxhmoula The new version (from 2002) was made by ITV, not BBC.

This is the best adaption ever! I feel sorry for poor Soames... Otherwise I am also happy for the happyness of those two. Television should repeat this series more often. Last time I saw this adaptation 20 years ago. SHAME!!!

In the book Irene has blonde hair and dark eyes, as in this adaptation. In the newest BBC version they have Irene with dark hair and blue eyes... totally different but the effect is striking, and accords with the character of this seductress.

Irene was Ngarie Dawn Porter she was a NZ actress - this part was made for her - can't imagine why anyone would feel sorry for Soames - he was a brute!!!!!! The best of British drama!!!!!!!

@ajudeit1 I''ve always been on Irene's side and I agree with you on Miss Porter being the perfect Irene.
