After centuries of living in this remote and untouched region of India the lives of hundreds of local tribal people is now under great threat from the mining company Vedanta. The company is looking to mine the mountain for bauxite -- the raw form of aluminium -- but to do this they are forcing people out of their homes and damaging the forests and streams that have been the lifeblood of these tribal groups for thousands of years.

This short film tells you about their lives before the mining giant moved in and the struggle that has brought them to London in the fight to stop Vedanta destroying their homes and livelihoods.

  • Vedanta is already manufacturing alumium at the base of this community river... Car companies are stealing the land from peoples whom have lived peacefully for generations.

  • I've seen there is obviously someone who works for Vedanta posting things that are supposed to be read in a positive light all over these vids and the rest of the internet.

The only way these people are going to get help is if we help them.

Go to survivalinternational (dot) org and sign the Dongoria Kondh letter .

  • Sorry but it is shameful what Vedanta Coomapny claims and what it is really doing. Ofcourse its not their families who are perishing that you care, or may be money could change that too for them .

Is it a lie that such company did not disturb ecosystems, that it is not killing locals with poisoned water and stealing their homeland.

  • Vedanta will make them no more than slaves on their own land. There will be no "uplifting".

Vedanta Resources has been repeatedly accused of multiple environmental and human rights abuses, ranging from inadequate handling of hazardous waste, to forced eviction, violence and bribery.
