@reallyblessed I saw her live at the Barbican, London about 15 years ago. I always prefered her doing ballards - as it really eccentuated her voice.

Roberta was much more than the modern manufactured pretty girl pop singers. Classically trained at the piano she was given a full music scholarship for Howard University at the mere age of 15 and even directed the Opera 'Aida' and received a standing ovation for it !!

After her father died she had to leave University due to lack of funding and became a music teacher and also played piano for Opera singers. She then became a full time singer herself and the rest is history !
