It's almost a law in jazz--the more familiar a band is with a tune, the faster they play it. Kenton did that with "Chiapas," for instance, and Miles did it with "So What" and "Seven Steps to Heaven."

I agree with the disenters. I hated when he went this fast. I also hated when he took the middle section so slow. Don't misunderstand, I 'm a Maynard fan.
