Here is a funny song from 1955 (of which, in spite of the daring lyrics, Wanda Jackson made a hit in Japan at that time!) performed by a great but forgotten singer who was famous from the mid forties till the sixties, at the edge of blues, jazz and R&B.
Born as Ernestine Allen, this big-voiced jazz-tinged blues singer began recording in 1945 and went on to record such songs as "Miss Allen's Blues" and "Love For Sale" as Annisteen Allen.
«Annisteen - or Ernestine, to give her first name the right spelling - hails from Toledo, Ohio. Right out of high school, she was recommended to Lucky Millinder (1) by fellow bandleader Louis Jordan. She claims Ella Fitzgerald as her main influence during her formative years, but tinges of Lavern Baker and Dinah Washington are also apparent.» (From the back cover of her Capitol LP.)
[(1) The Lucky Millinder Orchestra was formed in 1940 and became one of the most rhythmically exciting bands on the swing circuit. He gradually shifted away from swing and more toward early rhythm & blues as the 1940's progressed. In addition to Annisteen Allen and John Carroll, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Wynonie Harris, Paul Breckenridge, and Bullmoose Jackson were all featured vocalists with his band. In 1951, Federal Records signed the entire Lucky Millinder Orchestra to back Allen on vocals.]
She has made many records for Capitol, Decca, Todd, Warwick and Tru-Sound. Allen died in New York (Harlem) at 71 in 1992.
Enjoy Annisteen's communicative frenesy!

I'm old enough to remember when this crazy song was released. I was a teenager at the time and we all loved this song. It's still a classic.
