Unscrupulous selling of an unsafe, defective used firearm by Cabela's which randomly fires by itself, but because of the way the gun laws are written they can get away with not doing anything abouot it until someone gets killed.
i would have said it could have slam fired. meaning when ever you close the action, that it fires. but the safety thing i have no idea. But like jesusbeiliever63 said, it could have a really bad trigger job, maybe even too light of a trigger pull. hope you get everything straightened out. i would call savage and see what they say.
When you get your gun straightened out a lot of us would love to know what was wrong & what you had to do to fix it. I've already vowed to never buy from Cabela's after the flashlight rip-off , seriously doubt you'll ever go back
Gonna agree with previous comments. Probably a bad self trigger job someone did. May have a rounded seer or adjusted way too light. Pull the trigger guard there is a a set screw on the trigger that adjust how deep the seer sits on the the trigger it may be set too far out giving it a hair trigger. I had a Savage just like that that's the only thing I can think. If you have already looked into that them I'm not sure. I have Savages and love them. Take care stay safe.
Seems like they should let you bring it in the store if you walk in with the bolt of the rifle first, then the rest of the rifle. I would try with bolt in hand going to a different Cabelas explaining it to them and telling them you have the rifle in your vehicle. I can't see how they could rationalize refusing to let you do that.
Just in case anyone on here doesn't know, NEVER, EVER stone or file a Savage trigger! Extremely dangerous, I'm not going into detail here, there's already volumes of info on the internet about it,just dont do it unless you want a gun that goes off when it's not supposed to.
Used gun, looks like a DIY trigger job gone bad, especially seeing the rifle will fire while moving the safety. I say get thetrigger replaced and move on with your life, it's not worth the stress trying to fight Cabela's. Rifle Basix makes a trigger for about 85.00 that will take care of that, Timney about 125.00, fix the gun & get back to killin them groundhogs. I myself am a former Cabelas victim (customer) they charged me 25.00 freight to ship a flashlight UPS ground
my buddy just bought a savage from the lehi store, his gone will not eject the emptys.I took the bolt out of the rifle, the bolt did not have the extractor hooks on it.
i finally figured my problem out, take the action out of the stock and tighten the trigger spring, mine did this for two weeks before my gunsmith fixed this. the spring is on the right side of the trigger group, its to lose and will let the sear go off early
sir , you need to call savage and they should fix it asap . good luck
