My existing setup had started to leak and making the compressor run. I decided to re-plumb the system with 1/2" Sch 40 PVC. I separated the feed to before the dryer, oiler, regulator and after it. I added another hose reel on the right lift leg and three air outlets in other areas of the shop.
No PVC. Please educate yourself on the dangers of PVC as an air delivery system. The PSI rating 'seems to be ok', but doesn't account for the impact percussion, outdoor temps, air vs fluid dynamic differences, etc, and is, and never will be, safe to use. Also, PVC reacts to certain solvents, chemicals, and hydrocarbons. These can be found in the cans/chemicals we ALL keep/use in our garages. Hope that helps. My vision and safety of my family are worth black iron or aluminum any day of the week.

Sch40 PVC having been properly prepared at the joints will run compressor air just fine so long as you don't exceed it's limits. Air is different than fluid, but sch40 has a very large PSI rating even on the 2", so air often being half it's rating, will not explode. Now if you are suing sch80 that may be a different story, then I would agree with you.

@thatbadangel
Nice part about PVC is that it does not rust, metal often has that issue with compressed air.

Hello I would like to know more about the tank and if you doing anot plasma cutting - I am looking at a Kobalt 60 gallon tank to run my Plasma cutter and no one talk about cutter and compressor match ups and air flow. Thank You

Sch 40 is rated up to 600 psi. metal pipe would be better but pvc works too

When I bought my shop it had pvc piping. It was the first time I had seen this done. I was told the same as others have said about how dangerous it is. Going on year 8.

It is your system, your life and liabilty for shop visitors. If I were you, I would jerk that PVC out of there today and replace it with pipe that is rated for compressed air.
You have a time bomb that will mame or kill.
