What a totally biased report this is by the BBC. I thought it was only relatively recently they have become so biased! Not so. So Border radio are ok to be a pirate but Sunshine are terrible. And all that moaning about sunshine. How funny. "Community radio could be about to launched when the police go off VHF", haha its only coming on now!! The UK moves so slowly.
I sometimes listen (not often) to Absolute radio 1215 am and it sounds terrible swooshing in and out and is usually echoey..middle of two transmitters??.. This is supposed to be a professional setup but dont deliver the goods. Im sick of Magic as they always play the same guff day in day out, a request was turned down recently because it was a funky soul track, the dj DLT said that it didnt conform to middle of the road 'music' and rudely dismissed it..TURNCOAT..as he was a Pirate in the 60's
By and large, pirate radio did not interfere with already established stations. They operated on empty frequencies and even between the bands on shortwave. Criticise pirate radio if you will, but let's keep the facts straight.
I get that with Magic 999 on 999kHz MW and BBC radio lancashire on 855kHz;good during daylight, after dark both go extremely lousy with excessive fading(and to add insult to injury, magic goes even more unintelligable after 12midnight with interference from Deutschlandfunk Berlin on 999kHz MW caused by Digital Radio Mondiale transmissions on the same frequency).
Local Radio has always been a joke in this country-weak transmitters that were swamped by foreign stations after dark-europe used high power and we had to put up with poor reception.

Very interesting. I love how even the local Vicar and the Police were supporting Sunshine. That with Border was really nice.

Darned good unbiased reporting. They can't even get the station's name correct.
