I hope that this is something that Christians could open
themselves up to watching, and maybe it will help them
to realize that being a good person has nothing to do with
what you believe, but actions you take that have positive affects.

@mrgerbeck Religion is what puts the God notion in our heads in the first place, without the structure and culture of religion surrounding the God hypothesis, it quickly becomes just another outlandish idea, one from millions of dreamed up concepts, no more likely than any other, but the minute possibility of it's truth is always present, just as there is the minute possibility that little, dancing leprechauns created all that exists, with the power of their cheerful laughter.

Don't get me wrong: the notion that god creates us sick and threatens us with damnation if we don't accept his word is still reprehensible. However, the people making such claims wouldn't seem as repugnant so long as they admit how evil, not loving, that sounds.

Jamie owned that reverend, but I'm sure she gave him right back. Is life really a gift if it's only a test to see whether God can reward you for credulity but punish you for all time if you repudiate the unbelievable? This line of thinking wouldn't be so sickening if the religious would just admit that it doesn't smack of love, but coercion, and it is more prudent to not tick him off. Still, it's debased through and through.

I'm going all caps on this because these arguments are tired:

NOT BELIEVING IN A RELIGION IS A TERRIBLE REASON FOR BEING AN ATHEIST.

Without religion the phrase "God" is a philosophical container with a label G-O-D on it. There are many of these containers, "Love", "Freedom", "Nature", "Democracy", "Legitimacy", etc.

People go after absurd notions of "God" then claim they have therefore abolished all philosophies. This is generally idiotic and without a serious philosophical backing.
