Jake LaMotta had one of the best chins in boxing history. In over 110 fights against the greatest middleweights in history, LaMotta was only knocked to the canvas once in his entire 14-year career. Turning pro in the early 1940s, LaMotta ran up an impressive undefeated streak before losing. He was the first fighter to defeat the great Sugar Ray Robinson (Robinson was 40-0). LaMotta claimed to have "taken a dive" against "Blackjack" Billy Fox in New York City. Later, LaMotta captured the World Middleweight Title from the legendary Frenchman Marcel Cerdan. So fascinating was LaMotta's life and career that director Martin Scorsese made the film classic Raging Bull about him, with Robert De Niro delivering an Oscar-winning performance as La Motta.

  • AND SURELY "MUST BE RECOGNIZED AS ONE OF THE GREATEST FIGHTERS IN THE HISTORY OF BOXING !!! AS A "SIDENOTE SIR", I COULD NOT HELP BUT NOTICE THAT YOU STATED THAT YOU HAD MENTIONED THAT YOU MET Mr. DeNIRO, & ALSO MADE THE STATEMENT "MEN OF HONOR" !! WITH ALL RESPECT SIR, I CANNOT HELP BUT WONDER, BASED ON THOSE THINGS, & YOUR LAST NAME, IF THERE IS ANY CONNECTION BETWEEN YOURSELF & THE GREAT CARL BRASHEAR, THE FIRST BLACK MASTER CHIEF DIVER IN THE U.S. NAVY ! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME SIR !

  • @CADIEUXGR I begin by saying thank you for taking the time to not only watch this interview, but for also responding to it with this positive feedback. In regards to the Carl Brashear connection and myself, I am definitely one PROUD nephew of the late Carl Brashear. My father was Carl's 2nd oldest brother and I am so very proud of Carl and his achievements! I miss my Uncle dearly and I strive to carry myself in a way that will be of honor to our BRASHEAR name and inspire others to dream big!

  • @Jeffrey751 If having your life played by Robert DeNiro and he wins an Academay Award for doing so, and you become the 1st figther to defeat the Great Sugar Ray Robinson, equates to being a bum, I'm sure there are millions of folks in the world that wouldn't mind being a bum then, including me. Don't hate, just appreicate.

  • great champion.

  • @SaMUrAJ298 Thanks for your positive feedback. Mr. Lamotta is definitely a legend and his legacy will live on forever.

  • @Jeffrey751 Come on now Jeffrey, surely you must have a better self opinion than that

  • 2:50 That information is incorrect. Jake lost to Billy Fox, but that was the fight where he took the dive. He was not knocked off his feet.

Danny Nardico was the only fighter to knock Jake down.

  • @Jeffrey751

If he's a bum what does that make you?

  • Dear Mr. Brashear:

Sir, I have a GREAT DEAL OF RESPECT FOR YOU, for doing this interview with Jake !! While I'm a HUGE FAN & GREAT ADMIRER OF LaMOTTA, and have STUDIED THE MAN, & HIS CAREER, AT GREAT LENGTH, I AM ECSTATIC, that you did not bring "THE COLOR ISSUE"into this !! Of course, it is WELL DOCUMENTED that LaMotta fought Sugar Ray Robinson 6 times, and only won once !! I am also aware that SUGAR RAY WAS THE ONLY FIGHTER IN HISTORY, TO WIN THE BELT IN ALL 3 DIVISIONS, & SURELY...

  • @yohcast ....And I'm gonna remember & spread around that last statement that you made: "Don't hate, just appreciate" !!!

  • @yohcast THANK YOU !!! WHAT A "JERK" TO say something like that, about SUCH A GREAT GUY MAN !!!

  • @yohcast WOW - THAT'S AWESOME, MR. BRASHEAR !!! I AM TOTALLY ENVIOUS & JEALOUS, AND wish that I could have just been a "Fly on the wall", just watching you guys talk, man !!! And YOU WERE A "REAL GENTLEMAN" TOO, because I'm pretty sure that, "ANYBODY" that had the opportunity that you had would have wanted MUCH MORE TIME WITH JAKE !!! CONGRATULATIONS, GOD BLESS & MUCH SUCCESS TO YOU & YOUR FAMILY IN YOUR CAREER !!!

  • I can't find any footage of LaMotta beating Robinson, all i can find is the famous St. Valentine's Day Massacre. Was the first bout not televised?
