  • I was there that day with my father. I was just a kid. I remember them giving out john henry t-shirts that day. There are some things in life you never forget. To me, that was definately one of them. Its amazing to me that this is on here and I can go back and relive it.

  • @datniggalou1

And I still have the T Shirt. Glad it brought back good memories.

  • I was there :) Great performance! RIP, John!

  • John Henry wins another and sets a new track record time.

Pretty good running for a 9 year old. The start of a 7 race

string where he won 6 and had one 2nd.

  • I was there too, but I had bet on Sillviville. Better forgot John Henry after that race, and it's 11/14/2010. WOW!

  • I believe that was old Golden Gate Fields announcer John Gibson on the race call.

  • What a race? I thought then; Silveyville just broke the track record previously before this run, and I thought he'd a good chance to beat the great John Henry--I remembered as JH was being brought to the grand stand to be saddled--He stopped and paused, as if "to be photographed," just as was said he might do.

It was a great run--for Silveyville with Danny Winick aboard.

  • great horse, also great voice!

  • Great video! Thanks! Gosh, all the grade one wins he had at NINE YEARS old yet just blows me away! What a man! I have always loved him and always will..

  • i was there.... track record that still stands for 1 3/8 miles.

  • What a Champ on all surfaces and all tracks. We will greatly miss him. Rest in peace John~John...there will never be another John Henry! XOXO

  • John Henry was one for the ages, he could run on dirt, run on grass. He could run on the lead, and he could lay off the pace. I really think he could do just about anything.
